However, only one female cooperative COFEPROMER in Douira provides the collection and the enhancement of mussels in the Souss Massa National Park. The purpose of the cooperative is to ensure the sustainable exploitation of this resource, the improvement of women’s life conditions and their socio-economic integration.

The aim of this article is to present the role of the Moroccan cooperative model in the socio-economic inclusion of women in the fishing sector, a sector which remains male oriented, based on a case study within a female cooperative. Our approach is exploratory based on an interview administered to the manager and the women working in the cooperative to identify the impact of this cooperative on the socio-economic aspects of these women.

The results obtained from this study show that the collection of mussels is considered as a source of an additional income for indigenous families. Indeed, the presence of cooperatives in operating areas could help disseminate information, raise awareness among operators regarding the preservation of the resources and improve the quality of processed products.
