This article aims to defend the link between moral conversion and autonomy. To do so, we will rely on several philosophical and sociological perspectives that have in common to highlight the capacity of the individual to break with her or his initial moral situation, be it political or religious, in order to endorse new convictions. We will see that three notions as different as the change of Gesinnung in Kant, the sartrean instant and the alternation in Berger and Luckmann refer to a process of self-foundation that marks the choice between incommensurable value systems at the same time as a statement on the regime of the convert. This will lead us to tackle head-on the problem of the possibility, for an individual, to master his deepest convictions and her or his moral identity to the point of being able to change them by an act of will. It is precisely this act that we will define as the self-reification decision that constitutes the autonomous subject.

Conversion morale, autonomie, Gesinnung, fondation de soi, réification
