Using a corpus of articles from the mainstream and sports press, this study carried out a textual speech analysis assisted by IRaMuTeQ software. Qualitative interviews were conducted with journalists in order to complete the analysis of the ambivalent relationship between knowledge and opinion. The results highlight the role of journalism in legitimising the alter ego paradigm, in which the horse becomes man's equal. However, the results also show the persistence of an imagination of the horse in which the virile values of surpassing oneself make sense in the mythical system specific to the centaur.
