Abstract : In a context of eroding social relations, growing security risks and the threat of extremist groups in the regions of the northern border area of Ivory Coast, an exploratory study was carried out in an attempt to provide solutions based on the action of civil-military cells. Thus, this study aims to analyze the organizational capacities and functioning of civil-military cells in the border area of northern Ivory Coast in the face of violent extremism. The study was conducted in nine localities covering the regions of the northern border area of Ivory Coast, namely the regions of Bounkani (Bouna, Doropo, Téhini), Tchologo (Kong, Ferkessédougou, Ouangolodougou), Folon (Minignan, Kaniasso) and Poro (Korhogo). Using reasoned choice sampling, 109 participants from the Civil-Military Cells took part in this study. The interviews and focus groups conducted were used as data collection tools. Qualitative analysis as well as discourse content analysis made the data collected meaningful. The main results reveal that social determinants relating to community tensions weaken the capacity for action of civil-military cells in the face of the threat of extremist groups. These results remain the major conclusions that emerge from this diagnostic study of the organizational capacities and functioning of civil-military cells.
