<p><strong>Résumé : </strong></p>

<p>C’est l’histoire d’une civilisation qui ressemble à beaucoup d’autres, une civilisation qui ne s’est pas faite en un jour, mais qui « tribule », parfois titube, depuis plusieurs millénaires entre langues et cultures, entre guerres et conflits divers. Est retracé ici une brève histoire du Vietnam et de ses métamorphoses sociolinguistiques, culturelles et politiques au fil des siècles, depuis ses débuts légendaires jusqu’au roman national du XXe siècle. Le portrait brossé sur la durée, à partir de « tensions » qui le caractérise, permet d’entrevoir la complexité des interférences à l’œuvre dans la naissance de la « nation vietnamienne » telle qu’on la connaît aujourd’hui : ce qui est aussi l’histoire d’un idiome qui accède progressivement, et non sans écueil, au statut de « langue nationale ». Parmi les tensions repérées, nous évoquerons notamment celle qui se déploie entre la langue française et le quốc ngữ (écriture romanisée du vietnamien, ou littéralement « langue nationale ») durant l’intermède colonial, traversant ainsi la question de leur enseignement en regard du contexte.</p>

<p><strong>Abstract :</strong></p>

<p>It is the story of a civilization that resembles many others, a civilization that was not built in a day, but that has been "triumphing", sometimes staggering, for several millennia between languages and cultures, between wars and various conflicts. A brief history of Vietnam and its sociolinguistic, cultural and political metamorphoses over the centuries, from its legendary beginnings to the national novel of the twentieth century, is traced here. The portrait painted over time, based on the "tensions" that characterize it, allows us to glimpse the complexity of the interferences at work in the birth of the "Vietnamese nation" as we know it today: which is also the story of an idiom that is gradually, and not without pitfalls, attaining the status of "national language". Among the tensions identified, we shall mention in particular the tension between the French language and the quốc ngữ (romanized writing of Vietnamese, or literally "national language") during the colonial interlude, thus crossing the question of their teaching in relation to the context.</p>
