We propose an experiment to use the International Patent Classification (IPC) as an interdisciplinary pivot. The field studied concerns "science in the making", here doctoral theses, but can be modeled on other sources of data. We detail the results by an example directly related to the hard sciences, but which can also be applied to the human and social sciences.
